Commercial 29504 /4 and /5 Fiber Optic Termini

Overview

Stran Technologies’s commercial grade 410-0003 and 410-0005 series optical terminus is the optical and dimensional equivalent of the MIL-PRF-29504/4 &/5 terminus and is the proven work-horse of Stran Technologies’s commercial 28876 and TACLight™ connectors. Built around a single-mode quality Zirconia ferrule, Stran Technologies’s commercial grade 410-0003 and 410-0005 series optical termini offer single-mode performance at multimode affordability. The ferrule comes chamfered and pre-radiused to minimize polish time and consumption of expensive polishing films. So as to eliminate entrapped air in the bonding adhesive, ferrules are bottom pressed into the ferrule holder for unsurpassed reliability.

With its eleven, specially heat treated Beryllium Copper Belleville washers, the 410-0003 offers consistent terminus mating forces of between 5 – 7 lbs. These mating forces have been proven to prevent optical discontinuities for demanding shock loads in excess of 1,500 g’s in 3 milliseconds and vibration levels in excess of 40 g’s RMS.

The 410-0003 and 410-0005 are supplied with Fluorosilicone ‘O’-rings for environmental sealing of the connector insert cavity for open face pressures of up to 1 atmosphere. For applications requiring high pressure sealing of the insert cavity from the reverse direction (e.g. cable buoyancy compensation fluids, etc.), the 410-0036 and 410-0038 series termini incorporate a working-pressure actuated chevron seal capable of sealing pressures in excess of 2,000 psi. Angle polished and keyed versions are available for single-mode sensor applications. Designed to be used with a standard 0.0945” hexagonal crimper, Especially heat treated and gold flashed crimp sleeves capture Aramid fiber reinforced OFCC strength elements in excess of 22 pounds of tensile load.

To support these termini, Stran Technologies offers a full line of installation and extraction tools as well as a field kit for termination and polishing.
